Hydroponics

A series of projects related to Hydroponics, an innovative farming method which removes soil from the growth process of various vegetables. A shelf was made to mass produce 100 vegetables in under a month while a STEM kit was made for educating a younger demographic.

I know how to create industrial designs fairly well - hence why 3D CAD models were made before any shelf was built. With the STEM kit in the images below, I tried to create an easy to build design that would fit a young, elementary audience.

Working with a group of biology enthusiasts, we figured out a good nutrient solution and growth method, harvesting a full set from the large shelf in just 35 days.

Built and rendered in CAD before being built full-scale, this shelf holds 108 vegetables in a vertical layout, with 36 plants per layer.

Mmm… Delicious 😋. Made salads for the whole club with this harvest.

With full installation instructions and an easy-to-assemble design, I built this shelf trying to get elementary students interested in this ecologically-friendly growth method.

Fitting on any windowsill and with only three plant spaces, it's just perfect for a rewarding harvest.
